Please try again later. Verified Purchase. This review is coming from someone who has been a pilot for a number of years, and has also used various flight training programs in the past. The stock version that you get has a lot to do, but the great thing about this simulator is that there are so many free and pay for add-ons out there.
FSPilotShop and a few other sites have a great selection of different aircraft, scenery, utilities, sounds, etc. I run a iK overclocked to 4. Highly recommend! I personally would never refer to these as games only based on the learning curve. It does take quite a bit to learn, understand and become effective to the point of having fun with it. Once you get past that, tons of fun!!!
I love the missions. I'm no pilot by any means but have flown many times and this seems extremely realistic to me to include the flight and sounds alike. So realistic in fact that god forbid I honestly believe if I was a passenger in a plane and pilots bailed out, providing no one else jumped up and claimed to be a pilot and take over, I would run for the controls, contact a tower for guidance and I believe I would stand a darn good chance of landing it safely.
Many would laugh at this and I'm fine with this as I'm really just trying to express the level of reality with this! It's awesome!! Says it is not compatible with Windows 8 but for me it installed in my W8 HP Laptop and runs better and more stable than any other Windows I've installed it in. Aside from that, just awesome.
I love it so much I just bought another Laptop and use it as much as I can!! I got this game just to learn some of the basics of civil aviation. After receiving FSX, i came to the conclusion within hours that i needed a better control system than the mouse and keyboard. I upgraded to an xbox remote and it was much more fun, then i got a joystick to add a little more realism and the FSX seemed to become that much more challenging. As a game that is meant to be a benchmark for what your computer can actually do, you could tell that this game is a little on the older side.
For reference, skyrim runs at medium quality on my machine, at best. FSX runs at full quality without any issues at all. Still, overall the flight experience is the best you could expect without a g force simulator tied in which would cost many thousands of dollars if not tens or hundreds. If you have no experience in flying a plane, you are probably going to have to spend time in flight school as you work your way through missions.

This is a fun game but I mostly use it as a training aid to help young air cadets learning basic aviation topics by demonstrating the material they learn in class. The level of simulation in basic cockpit indications is well done and illustrates very well the basics of engine controls and indicators, flight controls and flight instruments.
